The Iowa School of Burlesque was established in 2011 by headmistress and founder, Phoenix L'Amour and is the premiere burlesque studio in the great state of Iowa. ISOB focuses on burlesque instruction ranging from burlesque history to striptease and twirling. After many years of teaching classes and hosting workshops out of shared spaces, Iowa School of Burlesque has acquired its own home in the Downtown Historical District of Ames, Iowa and will excitedly open their doors on September 1. Phoenix has joined forces with former student, Director of Education, and fierce pussycat, Maddie Moiselle, and local superhero and brains behind Maximum Ames Music Festival, Nate Logsdon, to make the dreams of a real-life studio a reality.
The Iowa School of Burlesque's mission is to provide the community with a headquarters for burlesque topics and history, a place to build confidence and character, and a partner in keeping performance art alive. Burlesque is not a gender, age, sexual orientation, body type, religious belief, or race. At the Iowa School of Burlesque, we promote body positivity, self-care, anti-shaming, and acceptance and equality for all. Burlesque is for EVERYONE. We welcome your uniquities at the Iowa School of Burlesque and will encourage you to celebrate them!
